Welcome to the newest anime series ” Seventh Heaven: The Seven Deadly Sins”. Produced by the talented mangaka Takao Aoki (Kung Fu: Sanjuro), the anime seven deadly sins will be aired on Japan’s most popular TV channel, the Fuji TV. Starting from this weeks episode, titled “Nanatsu No Taizai” (also translated as “The Day of the Seven Devils”), we will discuss the plot and the main characters of the anime seven deadly sins. With this quick summary we hope to shed some light on the interesting world of seven deadly sins and how it may affect our own life.
The story begins with the sudden appearance of a young boy in the town named Naruto. His father has disappeared and is said to be a very wealthy person. Since there are only seven deadly sins, Naruto decides to investigate where his father went and who might have killed him. His friend, the blond kunichi, joins him and they learn that they are called “Jinchu” in the Japanese language.
The name “Jinchu” is a pun on two words “Jinchoku” which means seven deadly sins and “zen” which means good. This was actually created to associate the characters of the seven deadly sins with heaven and good fortune. This was later used as basis for the whole concept of the anime seven deadly sins and became a very popular one indeed.
The interesting thing about Naruto is that he is actually considered to be a very good Shinigami practitioner. That is to say he has the seven deadly sins placed upon him by his Master, Uchuha Madara. He tries to help people but is always stopped short because of his intense hatred for shinigamis. He wants to help them but doesn’t want to become a Shinigami himself. And so he lives his life hiding from his real purpose. And we as the audience never find out what his real purpose really is.
This is very different from most anime seven deadly sins series where the main character will go through all seven deadly sins at the same time. Here, it is only Madara who tries to kill Naruto. They have different reasons for doing this, but they do it anyways. Also the anime seven deadly sins anime is set in Japan which supports the notion that the concept is very Japanese in origin. In most cases, this can be translated as hell.
Another interesting fact is that the seven deadly sins can only be transferred not asleep nor while awake. So if you become a shinigami, your mortal body will already be in hell, thus not allowing transfer. This goes for all the characters in hell. There are only seven deadly sins that can be transferred when your body is in heaven, or whatever level you are currently on. Only seven can be passed from human to immortal using the seven deadly sins.
But the interesting part about this is that there is actually one person who can take on the seven deadly sins. Naruto is this person. He did not become a shinigami because he was destined to be one. He took on the title because he killed a Shinigami and saved the world by himself. So technically, he is also a shinigami, but he didn’t become one over night.
This is why I feel that the anime seven deadly sins is very different than the original series. For starters, the first season was seven deadly sins only and the last two episodes were just filler. They just wanted to keep the conflict going until the next season, which I think is fine as it is only eleven episodes. I feel the original series is better because there is a beginning, middle, and an end. That way you know what happened all throughout the series.
